1001-082306.jpgScott Harvey, Cloud 9’s executive winemaker, grew up in the Sierra Foothill region of California and has helped it to emerge as one of the most distinctive appellations in California.  His untamed desire for adventure took him to Germany as an exchange student, where he became even more deeply committed to a career in wine.

He attended California State University in Sacramento before beginning practical enology training at Monteviña Winery in Amador Country.  After the 1974 harvest, Scott returned to Germany and worked as an apprentice at K. Fitz-Ritter Winery while he attended the Weinbau Schule in Neustadt.  After completing his apprenticeship in Germany, he returned to Monteviña and worked as Assistant Winemaker during the 1976 and 1977 harvests.  In 1978, Scott – then all of 23 – took over as the Winemaker at Story Winery, also in Amador County.

In 1979, Scott left Story to develop a winery for the Santino family.  Benefiting from Scott’s German training and innovative style, Santino became the leading winery in Amador County, garnering critical acclaim for the wines and broader recognition of Amador as a world-class growing region.  In 1992, Scott formed a company with a group of investors and opened Renwood Winery.

In April, 1996, Scott moved to the Napa Valley as Winemaker at Folie á Deux Winery – quickly rising to the position of President and General Manager.  In 2001, Scott Harvey met Scott Heron and became enamored with the Cloud 9 vision.  He joined the Cloud 9 team and introduced his own label – Scott Harvey Wines – in June, 2003.  In 2004, Scott left Folie á Deux to concentrate on his own endeavors – including Cloud 9.  Recently, a Scott Harvey Barbera was judged to be the 3rd best Barbera in the world at an Italian tasting (the home of the barbera grape), with Scott being flown to Italy for formal presentation of this award.
